Break [the box]

🎥 Hear my rant. 🎥

I don’t know about you, but I hate feeling confined and restricted.

I always attributed that to being a Creative… we’re all born as creative beings, then as we grow up that fades for some and sticks for others. It stuck for me. So I went to design school. There, Creative Thinking 101 was a prerequisite. I also remember logo design projects where we’d have to present AT LEAST 100 colored sketches for one concept. ONE HUNDRED. When was the last time you tried to come up with 100 different things?

Fast forward to starting a design and marketing business, taking on clients in any and all industries with all different types of projects needing their own creative solutions.

To say that I can’t help thinking creatively is an understatement.

That kind of thinking cannot and should not be contained. But when you’re in business for yourself that’s what you’re advised:

🏠 Do one thing great (wall!)

🏠 Market consistently [wall!]

🏠 Have one niche [wall!]

🏠 Create repeatable systems [wall!]

🏠 Have a self-care morning routine [roof!]

I get it, I do. It’s not rocket science that that’s what it takes to grow a successful business.

And…

When you’re a Creative, and that’s what you focus on, your light dims, your energy weakens, your creativity is stifled, and your uniqueness is hidden.*

I started my design business because I was tired of using the same fonts, same colors, and same photos, advertising the same message to the same kinds of people… I wanted to SCREAM. So after a few years of trying to force myself into becoming smoething I wasn’t, I decided to change the narrative and focus on what FELT GOOD. Guess what?

📈 Sales increased.

📈 Ungrateful clients were let go.

📈 Soul-mate clients came in.

📈 The team grew.

📈 The message was easier to communicate.

📈 I felt INSPIRED!!

📈 And creativity SOARED.

Here I am starting another business: coaching.

I started my certification program in June and it just ended in December (I’M OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED NEUROCOACH!!!). And for some silly reason, I started putting pressure on myself. I told myself it was “go time” and that I had to “sh*t or get off the pot.” “It’s time to get serious” and “prove myself.” I had myself convinced I didn’t know what I was doing. That I had to start over. That I had SO MUCH TO LEARN. That I wasn’t ready.

Until today. It hit me.

None of those stories are true. I was building walls and smothering my own spirit!!! Because my brain is trying to keep things safe and familiar (thanks but no thanks).

Yes, I am an ideal coach for a struggling creative. I “know that I know” that. My life could not have been laid out more perfectly than to help creatives transform their lives and businesses in a way that is 100% unique to them. And don’t get me wrong, I 100% WILL be doing just that.

But that’s not all I’ll be doing. Creatives are not my one-and-only “ideal” client.

My soul-mate clients come from all different backgrounds and industries, just like my soul-mate design clients. And I will 100% help them transform their lives and businesses, too. Because the truth is, I already have.

Coaching is not new to me, the certification is. You know what else isn’t new?

✨ Being able to “see” my clients and their potential.

✨ Being an excellent listener.

✨ Holding sacred space for transformation to happen.

✨ Creative problem-solving.

I was told in design school, once you know the rules you can break them. That’s what makes a great designer.

And I’m giving you permission to break any “rule” that isn’t serving your creative spirit. Be a great designer of your business AND your life.

Let’s take a sledgehammer to walls and glass ceilings keeping you playing small. Keeping you broke. Unhappy. Unfulfilled.

I’m seeing a lot of New Year’s posts about not needing to be a new you. And I agree… unless you really are ready for a total transformation. You’ll be ready whenever you’re ready, January 1st or not, and I’ll be over here ready to help you demo, redesign, and develop the success you truly designer.

….

*PS—I’m not saying not to do the things that will grow your business, I’m saying not to do them at the expense of your creative spirit.
