Cut it out

Sometimes I let my life inspire my business decisions, and sometimes I let my business inspire my life decisions.

The word decide means “to cut”. Did you know that? It’s sourced from the word that means “to cut off.” When you make a decision about something, you’re cutting off the other options—you’re closing doors.

But when you DECIDE to close doors that distract you from your goals, or cut off bad habits and negative thinking that hold you back, it’s FREEING.

When Gianna was about 15 months old and I was about 8 months pregnant, she’d wake up early every morning cryyyying for me. Screaming! That was my alarm clock. Every day. I let it turn me into a miserable monster, feeling like I didn’t have a say in how I started my day. I was exhausted, too tired to even care.

Until one afternoon I noticed how Gianna understood my words, watched my actions, and mirrored me. I noticed that I could teach her something new, and that if I was excited about it, she was excited about it! And right then and there, I became unavailable to waking up miserable.

When I put her to bed that night, we played a little game. I got in the crib with her and showed her what to do in the morning, how to tell me she was awake. And just like that, I had about 6 weeks of blissful morning wakes.

👉🏻 I’ve used this life lesson to encourage my mom friends that, “If I can do it, you can do it.”
👉🏻 I’ve used this example in Inspired Studio to coach clients to tweak systems in their business that aren’t working for them anymore.
👉🏻 I continue to use this in my life when I feel like I don’t have any options… I remember that I do!

All it takes is some clever thinking, positivity and excitement, and casting a vision of a different future. Then cutting off any and all other possibilities for things to go awry.

🙅🏻‍♀️ What are you going to DECIDE to cut?
🙅🏻‍♀️ What are you going to declare yourself UNAVAILABLE for?
💁🏻‍♀️ What’s something you can do TODAY to make your life a little bit more pleasing?
