Energy creates energy
How much do you pay attention to your energy? For most people, it’s not that often.
I’m a visual thinker, so I see mine as being contained in a vessel. A vessel that spills when bumped, gets cracked or gets a big hole kicked in the side. Mine has sprung a few leaks, lately:
- It’s the end of the year for my business.
- It’s the end of the year for all of our clients’ businesses.
- Christmas gifts.
- Statewide shutdowns.
- Missing family.
- Skipping traditions.
- Kids having a cold.
- Dusty house.
- 10 loads of clean laundry to fold, sort, and put away.
[BTW—I am NOT complaining. I am fully aware of how blessed we are. I lay my head down at night VERY grateful, and wake up each day with sleepy excitement and joy.]
We need our energy.
Not only to get through our day, but to get through it with a pleasing disposition, with ease, gratitude, and grace. Because that’s what creates abundance!
It’s not enough to go through the motions, life is so much more than that.
Your energy is just that… your energy. It is no one’s responsibility but your own to decide where it goes, how much, and for how long. You get to decide whether you invest your energy or spend it.
My parents always told us, “energy creates energy.” Meaning, you can invest your energy into something that lights you up!! Which creates MORE energy!
Or, if we aren’t paying attention, we can get caught up wasting our energy on things that deplete us… creating holes in our vessels that are hard to patch.
The hard truth is: You canNOT look outside of yourself to place blame on where/how much/for how long your energy dispersed—and you can’t look outside of yourself to replenish it.
So how do you replenish what has been spent?
How can you manage your energy so that it doesn’t get completely depleted?
“You cannot always control what goes on outside. But you can always control what goes on inside.” – Wayne Dyer
I’ll give you a hint. It’s not with an unhealthy amount of:
- Junk food
- Excess alcohol
- Drugs (Do I even need to say that?)
- Binge-watching trash TV
- Retail therapy
- Gossiping/complaining (“misery loves company” is such garbage, you’re so much better than that)
Here are some better ways to protect your energy—to patch up holes and seal cracks in your precious vessel:
- Be aware. Sit alone for a little while, and pay attention to where you feel your energy draining. Consciously think about positive ways to re-navigate a situation or ways to reframe your perspective. Ask yourself, what is truth (100% true to all in all circumstances), and what is a story you’ve been telling yourself?
- Make yourself a priority. Give yourself some space every day to do the little things that make you feel good. At-home facial, salt bath, exercise, reading, meditation, etc.
- Be kind to yourself. Say nicer things to yourself throughout the day. Forgive yourself when you mess up.
- Treat your body like it belongs to someone you love. Give it nourishment via healthy food, water, positive stories, growth-mindset conversations, movement, etc.
- Get outside! Breath deeply! Be grateful for what you always have: a beating heart, fresh air in your lungs, and people to share you life with.
- Work toward a goal, even if it’s a small one. Your brain loves a win! It creates all the happy hormones we love.
- Give compliments. See the good in others. LOOK for the good, don’t give in to the bad.
- Have faith. Faith in whatever you believe in. If nothing else, have faith in yourself. There are no extras. You’re here for a reason. Have faith in that.
This is a practice. This is a lifestyle. It'll never be perfect, but it's worth a try.
As within, so without.
I've made a choice to invest my energy toward inspiring and motivating others to consciously and intentionally design a life (and business) they love. 💚
