What is success, anyway? Oxford says “the accomplishment of an aim or purpose.” So in order to BE “successful” we must have an aim or purpose.
Do you have a purpose for your life, business/career, relationships, health, and spirituality?
Because success, to me, is success in all of those areas.
As high-achieving entrepreneurs it’s easy to put all of our focus on career and business. It’s a thrilling and exciting challenge! Even when it’s hard, it somehow always makes its way to the focus of our attention.
Is it because we believe that financial success will make everything else easier?
I grew up watching my parents run a business together, and they always said that success means nothing if you don’t have anyone to share it with.
The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
Because those moments of failure teach you lessons and make you stronger, giving you mastery in a particular area.
Failing takes time. Sometimes you have to fail the same way a few times until you learn the lesson that’s in it for you.
And success is not a destination because we should never stop trying to be better than we were the day before.
So when we’re thinking about that overnight version of success, isn’t we really want an BREAKTHROUGH? The big AH HA that helps it all make sense?
What was once buried deep in our subconscious can be consciously realized, seen, and in a moment feel a lot less scary. It can feel like that AH HA is everything you’ve been waiting for! Like the past is erased, the grass is already greener, the future is brighter, and you’ve reached the land of milk and honey. Sweet success!
You’ve been alive for decades, now. Which means that the thing causing you to self-sabotage with procrastination, fear of judgement, imposter syndrome and perfectionism has been on auto-pilot driving your actions and results for just as long. Because your brain was made to keep you safe.
Fight, flight and freeze are your brain’s way of keeping you from danger… even if the danger is a figment of your imagination.
They call it a “glass ceiling” for a reason: you can see what’s on the other side but no matter how hard you try you can’t reach it. And it’s because that invisible wall is subconsciously keeping it at bay.
That glass ceiling will not go away on its own. Just because you see it doesn't mean it isn't still there. That nasty little limiting belief has been alive and well FOR DECADES, so you can't get rid of it by simply giving it a dirty look. You need remove it and disable its power.
Getting your breakthrough is a job reserved for you… but not you alone.
