A BIG one with high winds, hail, and power outages. So we prepared! I brought my plants inside, took the cushions off the porch furniture, and charged all necessary devices. My husband and I pulled our cars into the garage and we all scrambled to take showers before the thunder and lightning. Once prepared, we were back to life as usual.
Today I sat in my office waiting for the rain. Waiting for the hail. Constantly saving what I was working on in case the power suddenly shut off. And in our little neck of the woods, the storm was a flop. A little hail for a few minutes, but nothing to get excited about. No wind. No trees down. No outages.
It occurred to me as I sat there looking at my front-porch geraniums from my desk chair that it’s very common to summon our inner girlscout/boyscout when we need to prepare for something bad—whether a natural disaster or a nature hike.
In business we prepare as much as possible—as often as possible—for economic downturns, more pandemic shockwaves, media and publicity shenanigans, and employee attrition.
Sure, we strategize goals and plan executions, but are we truly PREPARED for a miracle?
Is your business ready and able to accept the game-changing dream client TOMORROW? Is the team in place, the calendar blocked off, and all vendors ready to go?
Are you really prepared onboard that new employee TOMORROW? Are SOPs clear and at-the-ready? Is their workspace free from clutter? Does their supervisor have time blocked out, ready to guide and answer questions?
The Universe loves a void. Take a look at your plan (if you’ve got one) and see what you can make room for… immediately! Can you open your calendar to see more clients? Can you find efficiencies to streamline some SOPs? Can you clean up your onboarding process?
What is one thing you’re going to do to PREPARE for the best?
