If
there is only one you,
then
there is no one else exactly like you.
So…
If
your business is a reflection of you,
then
there is no other business exactly like yours.
Therefore…
If
there is no other business exactly like yours,
then
you have no competition.
By truly getting to know yourself.
We go through the majority of our lives being told what to do and how to be.
(I’m not saying this is good nor bad, just stay with me for a minute.) Our parents and family raise us with rules and manners and expectations. School systems encourage us to always ask permission, and they reward “right” answers. We’re pushed to go to college to learn more, achieve more, work harder. We enter the workforce and prove our worth with output, results, and competency. “Right” is rewarded, “wrong” is punished.
All of that is well and good, but it doesn’t necessarily create a culture of fostering a true sense of unique self. If anything it makes us want to follow the crowd, do what we’re told, act this way, don’t act that way. Think the right way, not the wrong way.
I believe that comes by giving OURSELVES permission to get to know ourselves, learn to love ourselves and appreciate the individual gifts we’ve been given… so that we can give that gift to others and receive their individual gifts in return.
I believe that making an investment in learning more about yourself is never a waste… it is only a gift that keeps on giving.
I have invested a lot of time, energy, and money in getting to know myself over the past 10 years. And I continue to do so. I keep uncovering layers of myself that I know are unique to me. And if nothing else it has given me so much more confidence than I’ve ever had before.
It helps me in business:
It helps me in relationships:
It helps me as a parent:
It helps me heal myself:
I was taking one of those magazine quizzes in my late 20s and realized I couldn’t answer any of the questions. I didn’t know my favorite color, song, or food. If you asked me at the time what I wanted for dinner I’d say “what do you want?”
It’s helping me show up right now.
Investing in myself, in coaching, helped me find a HUGE block that was getting in the way of my goals. I was terrified to show up. I wanted to stay in the dark. I wanted to keep building my business in the shadows. I was afraid I’d hurt people’s feelings. I was afraid that if people heard what I had to say I’d be left with no one. I didn’t think I had anything worth saying. I thought it would be best for me to just stay behind the scenes.
But how could I truly help people that way? Is that really a “gift” or a blessing worth sharing? Is that what I would tell my kids? “Girls… stay in the shadows. You don’t have any value to give, so just stay behind the scenes. Don’t show up too much… you’re going to hurt people’s feelings.”
WHAT?!?!?!?!? NO. No. No. No. NO one better talk to my kids that way.
So why did I think it okay to talk to myself that way?
Turning inward, hiring coaches, learning about myself, giving myself time, love and care have only made my gifts that much greater. Made my confidence stronger. Made me show up in a way that is opening doors to helping more people.
Through this work, I was able to [just last week!] go live in a FB group of nearly 3,000 people… without breaking a sweat!!
