Gabby Bernstein said, “say nice things to yourself because you’re the only one listening.”
I signed up to be part of a program a few years ago and my peer mentor was a fabulous British girl with whom I just LOVED connecting. Her energy was so positive and uplifting, she was so full of ideas, and I could feel the love she had for her little girls all the way across the pond!
She was a fellow creative who loved being in business as much as she loved being a mom—we connected on that level. We had girls that were similar ages and we were both trying to figure ourselves out, and what the next big thing was going to be for us.
I will never forget some advice she told me… she said that whether or not we know it, as moms our energy determines the energy of the rest of the house. That our kids feed off our energy and reflect it back to us. Our partners do the same. And so the more we take care of ourselves and nourish our energy, the more we can lift the energy of our entire home.
I hadn’t ever thought of it that way. I had never considered myself to have that kind of influence—it felt too powerful for little ol' me. I saw myself as more of a servant leader… one whose job was to continuously give and provide and nurture and love and do and do and do.
Do you ever feel like that?
The next time I noticed things were rolling downhill—temper tantrums were running rampant, stress levels were high and patience was short—I made a decision to shift MY energy.
I stopped.
Opened a window.
Lit a candle.
Put on fun music.
Turned on all the lights.
Sang!
And started a little dance party.
And right before my eyes, the tension disappeared—it was like a dark cloud flew right out the window and sunshine replaced it.
All because I stopped reacting. All because I decided to change. I didn’t make anyone do anything. I changed how I was showing up. And that energy that I generated from within grew.
Imagine how one little shift can change SO many things around you—shifting from “going with the flow” and reacting to having an awareness of self can be the one shift that changes everything.
Imagine if you stood in that leadership 24-7.
