I love my work so I feel grateful for my list! However this week's list had some heavy hitters on it. (So heavy that instead of writing my usual post I went live on IG instead... which didn't allow me to save it like I thought it would. *eyeroll*)
Monday's list was long and included things that took (and will take) a lot of energy and a lot of thought. I got to some of the things, but not all of them. Reflecting upon that made me realize that I wasn't the only one with unfinished tasks... I wasn't the only one feeling as equally exhausted as I was uneasy about what I was leaving for the rest of the week. So I wanted to share my thoughts with other entrepreneurs who might be in the same position—other super-humans who love a to-do list and who love to fill it with very big important tasks.
🌿 Are we filling our to-do list with things just to keep us distracted from the things we could be doing to further our business, purpose, relationships, or life in general?
🌿 Are we choosing the easy things to do just to keep ourselves busy—to make ourselves feel like we're actually doing something?
🌿 Are we avoiding the difficult things because they trigger something inside of us? Because they make us feel uncomfortable? Because if we don't know how to do them very easily and efficiently that might mean something about us? Maybe it'll mean that you're not smart enough, a responsible enough, achieving enough?
🌿 Are we paying attention to the thoughts that come up when we start doing the very difficult things on our to do list, and then choose to do something else to just stay busy?
These are questions that you can't just answer just-like-that. This is a practice, a practice I'm constantly working on.
The truth is: We are all here because we all have unfinished business. I am super excited to be building this coaching business. There are some big things that I need to do—there are some big things that I'm avoiding. And there are some small things that I'm keeping myself busy with.
Do I have enough energy and mental capacity, to actually do 'the thing' right now? On Monday, I didn't have the energy or the mental capacity to write a thoughtful post, and take a picture, and make sure it looked great, and post it on multiple channels. Which is why I "cheated" and went LIVE on IG instead. Because deep down I still wanted to share my heart, my vulnerability, and the fact that I'm a business person, just like you, who goes through the same struggles. And to show you what it looks like to practice paying attention to the thoughts that are running on autopilot... always... in our subconscious minds (up to 97% of our thoughts are in our subconscious minds). Watching my actions and inactions gives me clues as to what's really holding me back.
We're the ones making and adding to our to-do list. We're the ones choosing the easy things, choosing the busyness that leads to being tired. When we put that habit on repeat it leads us to becoming burnt out. And then we look at our lives and it's not what we want—we don't feel fulfilled—and it's because we're avoiding the things that are really going light us up anyway.
It's just our brain trying to keep us safe. Safe from...
🌿 Data it hasn't collected yet
🌿 The unknown of "success"
🌿 The unknown of "failure"
🌿 The full potential of our power
That's all you have to do. And from there, you'll be able to make choices to do the things that will help you move the needle in your life and in your business... AND WANT TO... because you are the designer of your life. You are not a victim of your life. You are not a victim of your circumstances. You do not have to simply react to things that are happening around you and say they're happening "to" you.
Transformation begins with awareness, increases with making intentional choices, and continues with practice. Now, take another look at that to-do list... what will move the needle in your life+business, what will just keep you busy? Then dump, delay, delegate, or do.
